New details have emerged about how Tyler Robinson, the suspected assassin of Charlie Kirk, got involved in the manhunt for himself. Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby shared during a press conference on Wednesday that he received alarming information from a former law enforcement colleague. The colleague indicated that 22-year-old Robinson had been the shooter, expressing concerns about Robinson’s suicidal thoughts but reassuring that he would not harm himself due to support from his parents.
Brooksby described Robinson’s mindset, stating that he felt it was “inevitable” he would be captured. He also experienced anxiety about a potential assault on his home or being confronted by police.
The sheriff recounted that a call came from his friend at 8:02 p.m. on Thursday evening. Initially, Brooksby thought something tragic had happened based on the tone of his friend’s voice. However, the friend shared crucial information: he was aware of who had shot Charlie Kirk, citing a connection through a Religious Association. Robinson was reportedly in Washington County, and efforts were underway to encourage him to surrender voluntarily.
During the conversation, it was suggested that Robinson might have suicidal thoughts, which prompted Brooksby to head towards a remote area in Washington County. The information eventually led to Robinson’s parents persuading him to surrender calmly and peacefully.
Robinson expressed a desire for a “peaceful and calm” surrender, a condition that the sheriff was willing to accommodate. Meanwhile, Brooksby did not question Robinson until the agent in charge arrived at the scene. He mentioned that Robinson’s family and those living with him would need to be kept away for an extended period, though he didn’t elaborate further.
Interestingly, the sheriff noted that another individual with the Robinson surname who works for the Washington County Sheriff’s office was unrelated to the suspect. Unfortunately, this led to that individual being harassed, prompting a request for clarity from the media.
A relative of Robinson disclosed to media outlets that he had been living with a transgender partner for about a year. She described a radical shift in his beliefs, stating he had grown hostile toward conservatives and Christians, which he hadn’t been raised to be.
Robinson is facing serious charges, including aggravated murder and multiple counts related to obstruction of justice and firearms. This situation unfolded as Charlie Kirk was in the midst of his “American Comeback” tour, where he was tragically shot last Wednesday.
Witnesses describe Robinson firing a round from his rifle while on the roof of the Utah Valley University’s Ross Center, resulting in Kirk being hit in the neck. Kirk, known for promoting dialogue among university students as a conservative figure, was pronounced dead after some time.
