The Pittsburgh Steelers community is mourning this week after the passing of veteran journalist and long-time contributor, Dale Rory. The team reported the news on Wednesday; he was 56 years old. Rory had been diagnosed with cancer earlier.
His career covering the Steelers began in the late 1980s, and he worked for various publications including DK Pittsburgh Sports and Steelers Digest. Notably, in 2022, he joined the Steelers as a contributor.
Rory mentioned in 2022, “I spent over half of my time covering teams. If I’m not writing about them, I’m talking about them, and that’s what I do.” He also filled in as a host during the 2008 Select Steelers Radio Network broadcasts and transitioned to a full-time role by 2014, hosting shows and podcasts.
A native of Freiburg, Pennsylvania, Rory graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The university expressed deep sadness at his passing, highlighting the impact he had on the community.
The loss of Dale Rory is felt profoundly, with heartfelt tributes pouring in from friends and fans. He is survived by his wife Amy and their three children.
