Giants’ Struggles Continue Despite Strong Performance from Malik Nabers
The Giants had high hopes for Malik Nabers when he made his move against Russell Wilson during the game. It didn’t take long for them to showcase their potential together.
In just the first game of the regular season, their connection showed signs of promise. Nabers caught both a 29-yard and a 48-yard touchdown pass last Sunday, finishing with nine receptions and 167 yards. Unfortunately, the Giants fell short, losing to the Cowboys 40-37 in overtime.
The game ended with Wilson’s final deep pass aimed at Nabers. Unfortunately, it went awry, intercepted by safety Donovan Wilson.
After the game, Russell Wilson acknowledged there was a mix-up regarding the play. Three days later, Nabers reflected on the situation. “I don’t really blame myself entirely. We all have roles to play,” he said, but then quickly shifted his focus.
“I’ll take responsibility,” Nabers admitted. “I should have communicated better with Russ about what we were trying to accomplish. I was trying to figure out the defense’s strategy, but I ended up not being clear. That’s on me.”
Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence II hasn’t quite been at his typical performance level in the early games. He expressed confidence that things would change in the upcoming match against the Chiefs. “I know I need to step up, and I will be ready for Sunday night,” he stated.
As for the cornerback positions, Cor’dale Flott has been getting the most snaps, while Deonte Banks is primarily utilized on third downs.
During week two, Flott played 59 snaps, while Banks’s participation increased to 33 snaps since the season began. Coach Brian Daboll shared his thoughts on Banks, noting, “He did some good things. The playing time can vary based on our game plan for the week. But their contributions are vital.”
In injury updates, linebacker Darius Muasau continues in the concussion protocol, while Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf) did not practice. De Chauncey Golston (ankle) is also dealing with issues. Limited participation was noted for several others, including WR Onedale Robinson (foot) and RB Tyron Tracy Jr. (calf).
