Ashton Jeanty and Pete Carroll share a common goal following a disappointing start against the Raiders

Ashton Jeanti’s NFL Journey Faces Early Setbacks

Ashton Jeanti’s introduction to the NFL isn’t exactly what many anticipated. Drafted sixth overall by the Raiders this year, he’s managed only 81 rushing yards so far, which breaks down to a mere three yards over 30 carries in the team’s 1-1 start.

When asked about the Raiders’ plans involving head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith, it was suggested that there’s a need to “feed Ashton a little more.”

“I don’t think you’d draft a guy like me without giving carries or touches. I’m ready to take on that responsibility. Like I said, it’s about to start with me,” Jeanti commented.

Interestingly, the Raiders’ offense has primarily revolved around Smith during their initial games. Smith threw for 362 yards in their season opener against the Patriots but struggled with three interceptions in their recent matchup against the Chargers, an important rival in the AFC West.

Looking back at his college career, Jeanti shone at Boise State, rushing for 2,601 yards and scoring 29 touchdowns last season, leading his team into the college football playoffs.

“It’s all just learning,” Jeanti reflected. “I think every rookie faces a learning curve in the NFL. It’s quite rare for guys to jump right in and dominate, so I’m not disheartened. I just need to improve.”

Coach Carroll has indicated that the Raiders aim for a greater presence of Jeanti in their offensive strategy, particularly as they look to manage the latter portions of games.

In a recent game against the Chargers, Jeanti only had 11 carries during a 20-9 defeat, and the Raiders were largely on the defensive throughout the contest.

His next chance to make an impact will come this Sunday against the Washington Commanders. Let’s see if he can turn things around.
