Harris Discusses Buttigieg’s Role in 2024 Election

In her forthcoming book, former Vice President Kamala Harris revealed that former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was her preferred choice for running mate in the 2024 presidential elections, according to a report from the Atlantic.

Harris remarked, “If I were a straight white person, I would have been an ideal partner.” She noted that Buttigieg, who partnered successfully with her during the 2020 campaign, was considered for the role again.

She elaborated, saying, “We wanted to reflect much of America: accepting women, Black women, and those who have Jewish spouses.” However, she felt torn, admitting that it was a considerable risk to make such a choice.

“And I think Pete understood that too—much to our shared dismay,” she added.

Buttigieg was on Harris’ list of potential running mates after former President Biden withdrew from the race. Other candidates included Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Ultimately, Harris chose Walz.

Both Harris and Buttigieg remain on the political radar for 2028.

In a separate excerpt from her book titled “107 Days,” released last week, Harris criticized Biden’s decision to seek reelection in 2024, calling it “reckless.” She felt trapped in her position, stating, “I knew if I advised him not to run, it would seem incredibly self-serving.”

She added, “He’s got to win against the other candidate, even if it was his naked ambition, perhaps my only message.”

Harris claimed that Biden’s staff contributed to the negative narratives surrounding her during her vice presidency.

Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, echoed her concerns earlier this month, suggesting that Biden “should not have run” for reelection.

Harris’ memoir will detail her brief presidential campaign after losing to President Trump and is set for release on September 23. She plans to kick off a book tour across 15 cities, including international locations, starting on September 24.
