Swalwell Wears Kimmel Hat in CNN Interview Following Show’s Cancellation

During a recent CNN interview, Representative Eric Swalwell from California sported a “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” hat after Disney announced the show’s cancellation. This action came in light of some controversial remarks made by Kimmel regarding the death of Charlie Kirk.

When asked about the hat by CNN host John Berman, Swalwell humorously acknowledged, “You’re right, it’s John.” The discussion quickly turned serious as Swalwell expressed concerns about America’s political climate, stating, “The American president firing comedians who poke fun at him should alarm all Americans.” He emphasized the need for citizens to stand up against such actions.

Just the day before, Disney made the decision to suspend Kimmel’s show, causing a stir in media circles. Berman highlighted that private companies have the right to make staffing decisions, even questioning if there’s more happening behind the scenes since Kimmel himself has not been fired.

In response to Swalwell’s support of Kimmel’s comments about Kirk, Berman noted a tweet from Brendan Kerr, the head of the FCC, who was appointed by Donald Trump.

Swalwell highlighted that Kimmel has the “right to be a comedian,” suggesting that humor shouldn’t be stifled even amidst controversy. Interestingly, Trump weighed in, labeling Kimmel’s show being pulled as “great news for America,” though he seemed to walk a fine line, stating he didn’t need to support Kimmel, yet noting that Kimmel didn’t place blame on the MAGA movement for the violence in question.

Kimmel, during his monologue leading up to the firing, criticized right-wing factions framing the suspect in Kirk’s death in an attempt to deflect blame from their ideology. He remarked on the ridiculousness of their strategy, noting, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to dissociate the perpetrator from their group.” It’s a complex situation, revealing the ongoing tensions in contemporary political discourse.
