Jimmy Kimmel will not air on the night of Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' finale

Jimmy Kimmel’s Show Pauses for Colbert’s Final Episode

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night program “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” won’t air new episodes on May 21, coinciding with Stephen Colbert’s last show. Colbert’s finale on “The Late Show” is set for that same Thursday, with both hosts airing at different times. Kimmel mentioned in a recent interview that he won’t be broadcasting anything that evening, a similar decision he made during David Letterman’s final episode back in 2015.

Kimmel, along with fellow late-night hosts Seth Meyers, John Oliver, and Jimmy Fallon, is expected to appear on Colbert’s show prior to its conclusion.

Colbert’s Show Cancellation and Speculations

CBS announced that “The Late Show” will wrap up after the end of its season in May 2025, citing financial reasons for the cancellation. Some believe there may have been political pressures influencing the decision, especially during the Trump administration.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Colbert acknowledged the uncertainties surrounding the show’s cancellation, mentioning that while there’s no definitive proof of political interference, it seems plausible. He noted that many suspect financial motivations, referencing a notable payment made to the Trump administration previously.

Interestingly, the dynamics surrounding Colbert’s departure drew comments from politicians and industry peers who took the opportunity to express their appreciation for him during his final show. Former President Obama even participated in an earlier interview with Colbert, hinting that the comedian might actually be more suited for the presidency than Trump.

Meanwhile, “Tonight Show” hosted by Fallon is on track to air as planned on May 21, maintaining its regular schedule.
