Nafisa Collier Responds to Controversy Over ‘Cancel Culture’

Nafisa Collier, a standout player for the Minnesota Lynx, offered a brief response—just one word—after former President Barack Obama criticized the Trump administration for “cancel culture.” This came amid a discussion on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show where he mentioned that cancel culture is reaching “dangerous levels.” Collier described the situation as “scary.”

On the court, Collier delivered a stellar performance, scoring 24 points in a playoff victory against the Golden State Valkyrie. This win coincided with a stir on social media due to Kimmel’s show being taken off the air.

Kimmel had previously accused certain groups of hitting “new lows” during his commentary on a case involving a 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson. This was in response to police reaffirming the suspect’s links to radical ideologies in a recent indictment.

Echoing his frustration, Kimmel stated, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the Maga gang,” condemning attempts to characterize Robinson in a way that deflected responsibility. His remarks were made just after both the FBI and the Utah governor had indicated that Robinson had adopted increasingly extreme views.

In light of Kimmel’s comments, backlash emerged, leading Nexstar Media Group to preempt Kimmel’s show with alternate programming. Sinclair has also sought further actions regarding his remarks.

Following the controversy, Brendan Kerr, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman appointed by Trump, indicated that Disney could face repercussions if they fail to address the matter. He denounced Kimmel’s comments, calling them “sick,” and mentioned possible regulatory paths the FCC might take.

The outrage continued to ripple through public reactions on Thursday after Kimmel’s show was yanked the previous night. In a broader statement, critics suggested that the current administration had escalated the issue of cancel culture, threatening regulatory actions against media organizations regularly.

The heated discussions come in the wake of the recent shooting death of Charlie Kirk, who was killed during an event at Utah Valley University. His funeral is scheduled for Sunday in Glendale, Arizona. Thousands of people across the country have been mourning his loss.
