Iran seeks discussions with the Trump administration as envoys travel to Doha.

Ross Douthat indicates that Donald Trump has lost the country after a year in power.

High-Level Talks Between Iran and Trump Administration

White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt announced on Monday that Iran has expressed interest in high-level discussions with the Trump administration, especially as a fragile ceasefire is in place. U.S. officials are set to travel to Doha as President Trump continues to urge Iran to agree to a deal, warning that any further attacks will be met with a decisive response.

“From our perspective, the ceasefire’s end is non-negotiable. We will counter violence with violence,” Levitt stated in an interview on “Fox & Friends.”

She noted that attacks on commercial shipping have occurred, which the U.S. has addressed under presidential direction. Yet, there’s a strong desire for peace, and the president aims for a favorable deal for Iran, showing he is prepared to use military force if necessary.

Iran’s Delegation and Negotiations

Levitt, speaking from the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., mentioned that Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will be heading to Doha to discuss a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the U.S. and Iran.

If the memorandum unfolds as intended, it could lead to decreasing gasoline prices for Americans. Conversely, if Iran adopts an aggressive stance, they may further isolate themselves. “They will prove to be the outcasts of the Middle East,” she remarked.

She emphasized that Iran is currently distanced from its Gulf and Arab partners, while the U.S. military is unmatched globally. The president reserves the right to leverage that military power.

This announcement came after U.S. Central Command conducted airstrikes on Iranian targets, including Qeshm Island, following a series of recent incidents in the Strait of Hormuz. In retaliation, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps targeted U.S. military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain.
