Jimmy Kimmel’s Targeted Humor Against Trump
Jimmy Kimmel didn’t hold back last year in his critiques of President Trump and his supporters. For nearly two weeks, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” aired episodes filled with sharp jabs directed at the former president.
A recap of Kimmel’s monologues over the year revealed a consistent theme. Time and again, he focused on Trump and those who support him.
One notable moment involved a joke about Trump’s relationship with First Lady Melania, punctuated by a gag about a flagpole that culminated in a “erectile denial” punchline. Kimmel also accused Trump supporters of “breathing the breath of the maga mouth,” which, well, raised some eyebrows.
Since returning from summer break on September 2, Kimmel has devoted around 90 minutes across nine episodes discussing Trump. One significant discussion mentioned Charlie Kirk, a staunch supporter of MAGA, after he faced serious accusations following a violent incident.
On September 10, merely hours after Kirk was shot, Kimmel opted to feature footage of protests occurring during a cabinet dinner in Washington, D.C. Demonstrators chanted slogans like, “Free DC! Free Palestine! Trump is the Hitler of our time!” These sentiments were later echoed on ABC radio.
Kimmel claimed that Trump had essentially transformed Washington into a “militarized zone” and labeled him a “felon convicted 34 times.” He further cited a Forbes claim that Trump has accumulated a wealth of $3 billion since his election. Interestingly enough, Forbes didn’t indicate any illicit means behind Trump’s financial successes.
In subsequent episodes, Kimmel briefly mentioned the tragic murder of Kirk, stating, “we amplified our anger, our divisions,” while also criticizing Trump for his rhetoric that divides. He pointed out how Trump had remarked that perhaps those supporting the Second Amendment should do something concerning Hillary Clinton, an alarming comment in the context of current events.
Kirk, who was killed shortly after a violent incident, was often referred to as a figure at the center of contentious debates surrounding free speech.
Across recent monologues, Kimmel tackled various topics like “anger over cracker barrels,” Trump’s comments regarding Chicago, and even Epstein-related scandals. In a humorous “Maga Freakout” segment, Kimmel interviewed California Governor Gavin Newsom, who likened Donald Trump Jr.’s situation to getting “sloppy seconds” concerning a former relationship with Kimberly Guilfoyle.
In the past year, Kimmel only addressed non-Trump-related issues in about five of his monologues, with the most recent occurring on December 11, where he offered light-hearted news about a seemingly mundane topic.
