Jimmy Kimmel’s Future with ABC Uncertain
Before his recent comments regarding Cen TV, Jimmy Kimmel’s position at ABC was already in question, according to sources. The late-night host, alongside several others, had just begun a new contract with Disney and was expected to enter negotiations later this year.
However, there are indications that ABC might be inclined to remove him from the lineup this season. Insiders suggest that the network could use the backlash from Kimmel’s spontaneous monologue as a reason to cut ties, thereby sidestepping another year of potential controversy.
One source mentioned that Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed a desire to avoid any confrontations with Donald Trump, especially since he has been working to stabilize Disney. There was concern that any further commotion would exacerbate existing issues.
Still, another insider hinted that Kimmel might have reconsidered stepping down recently, stating, “If he was really thinking about leaving, he would likely stick around.” Kimmel, 57, was spotted heading to meet his lawyer in Century City after his show went on hiatus. His legal representation includes notable figures like Seth MacFarlane and Dave Bautista.
Moreover, it’s been suggested that Kimmel shares a close relationship with Dana Walden, co-chair of Disney Entertainment, who reportedly notified him about the situation. One source emphasized that they haven’t seen Walden pushing to remove him.
Despite the tumult, Kimmel’s show was abruptly taken off the air after he made controversial remarks about right-wing figure Charlie Kirk’s death. On his show, he criticized the nationalist group attempting to leverage Kirk’s tragedy for political gain.
Following his comments, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) head criticized Disney regarding statements about Kirk’s alleged assassin. This led to further backlash, particularly from Sinclair, a major ABC affiliate, which has publicly called for Kimmel’s return to the airwaves.
As tensions mount, it’s reported that Kimmel remains firm in his stance and is unwilling to apologize for what he said. Kirk, an ally of former President Trump, was tragically killed at an event in Utah on September 10th.
