Tragic Death of Congressional Staffer in Texas

A tragic incident unfolded in Uvalde, Texas, where Regina Santos Aviles, 35, a staff member for Republican Rep. Tony Gonzalez, lost her life early Sunday morning.

Her mother, Nora Anne Gonzalez, shared that Regina’s last words were, “I don’t want to die,” as she arrived at the scene, finding her daughter conscious but in distress.

Reports indicate that Regina was swiftly transported via medical helicopter to Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, but sadly, she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities confirmed that there had been a fire in the backyard, but by the time firefighters arrived, it had already been extinguished. The cause of the fire remains unclear.

“She loved life, her family, and everyone around her,” Rep. Gonzalez stated. “Regina was passionate about her work, contributing significantly to securing funds for her community.”

Described by colleagues as dedicated and compassionate, Regina had been serving as the regional district director since 2021. Rep. Gonzalez noted that her focus was always on making a positive impact in Uvalde.

Local police reported no signs of foul play, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
