A powerful conservative organization has rolled out new advertisements aimed at persuading Republican lawmakers in Kansas to support rezoning initiatives, which could jeopardize the state’s prospects for retaining its Capitol.
In a 30-second ad shared with The Hill, the narrator states, “We’ve seen this film before: liberals are about to rig elections. California Democrats will rewrite district lines and set the stage to hand Democratic control of Congress. It’s time for the Heartland to write their own script.”
The ad goes on to emphasize that the voices of Kansas voters shouldn’t be silenced by Democrats. “State Republicans are collaborating with President Trump to combat their plans to redraw Kansas’ map. We need fairness restored to lawmakers and support for equitable maps,” it continues.
This conservative group is set to air its new ads during morning public shows throughout Kansas. They previously committed at least $1 million to assist Republican efforts in altering the House map and have also campaigned in Indiana and Missouri.
The ads are particularly significant in light of upcoming council lines set before the 2026 elections, with some Republicans voicing concerns regarding the proposed rezoning and its potential impact on their ability to win more lawsuits.
After the 2020 US Census, Republicans have been looking to create a more challenging district for Representative Sharice Davids. However, attempts to unseat her during the 2022 cycle did not succeed.
States like Texas and Missouri are already revising their House maps to give Republicans a better chance as they head into next year, with mounting pressure from the White House and President Trump. Meanwhile, Indiana Republicans have yet to announce their intentions regarding redistricting, but they are feeling similar pressures.
The advertisement underscores Republicans’ urgency to tweak districts in anticipation of the mid-terms. In response, California is proactively preparing its own maps for the November ballot, aiming to mitigate the Republican advantages expected from changes in Texas. Other blue states are considering similar adjustments.
The Club for Growth stated, “Democrats have spent decades manipulating state boundaries to keep Republicans out of Congress. Now that Republicans are under attack regarding rezoning, the left is starting to panic.” They also noted plans to work closely with Kansas lawmakers, pledging $1 million to counter progressive policies favoring Democratic interests across the U.S.
