Colin Kaepernick Supports Investigation into Death of Mississippi Student

Colin Kaepernick has announced his commitment to fund an independent autopsy for a black student who was found hanging from a tree at the University of Mississippi.

Demartravion “Trey” Reed, 21, was discovered dead on Monday from a tree at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. This incident sparked speculation among conspiracy theorists who suggest it may have been racially motivated or a lynching, yet officials have disputed these claims regarding the nature of his death.

The county coroner ruled the death a suicide, and local law enforcement indicated there is no evidence of foul play. There are suggestions that video footage captured Reed’s final moments.

“Trey’s death brings to mind the painful history that many communities have endured over the years. We can only find peace by uncovering the truth,” said Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump.

Witnesses reported that Reed was engaged in a heated phone conversation shortly before his death, appearing visibly upset.

However, Reed’s family has expressed doubt about the official findings and has turned to Kaepernick’s “Know Your Rights Camp autopsy initiative” for financial support to seek a second opinion on the circumstances surrounding his death.

“We are grateful to Colin Kaepernick for standing by this grieving family and championing justice and truth,” Crump stated.

Conspiracy theorists have alleged that Reed’s body showed signs of multiple broken bones prior to being hung. The official coroner’s report has countered these allegations, asserting that there were no indications of assault or fractures consistent with those claims.

Sean Tindel from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety condemned the spread of conspiracy theories surrounding Reed’s death.

The former NFL player initiated his free autopsy program in 2017, but there has been no change in the official ruling that the family disputes.
