Josh Reynolds Injured in Shooting Case of Mistaken Identity
In October 2024, New York Jets wide receiver Josh Reynolds was shot in the back of his head and foot, an incident now classified as a case of mistaken identity. At the time, Reynolds was a player for the Denver Broncos and was injured during a shooting on October 18, 2024, as reported by court documents.
The suspect misidentified Reynolds’ group as part of a larger situation involving a drug deal that used $250,000 in counterfeit money to purchase cocaine. Court documents reveal that the shooter observed the group inside a strip club in Glendale before pursuing them and filming their car chase.
According to reports, as many as four vehicles may have been involved in the pursuit. The Broncos confirmed that Reynolds sustained injuries during the shooting. In a statement, they noted, “Josh Reynolds was the victim of a Denver shooting on Friday and was treated for minor injuries. We will defer further comments to the authorities in light of ongoing legal proceedings.”
Reynolds was shot in the back of his head and left leg, while a second person was also injured in the shooting, and a third suffered cuts from broken glass. A total of seven adults and a teenager have been charged, with one individual remaining at large.
The Denver Post reported that 42-year-old Barr Charlesworth was sentenced to 10 years in prison for felony assault; he was driving one of the vehicles involved during the incident.
After the shooting, Reynolds completed the remainder of the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, having been released by the Broncos. This offseason, he signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Jets.
