Trump Visa Rules

On Friday, President Donald Trump announced a notable increase in annual H-1B visa fees for foreign tech workers, raising them to $100,000.

Trump, who made the declaration at the White House, stated that the goal is to encourage the hiring of American workers.

According to his administration, this initiative aims to protect American labor while still providing a way for businesses to bring in “really extraordinary people.”

Each year, the U.S. issues 85,000 H-1B visas through a lottery, with a significant majority—around three-quarters—being granted to applicants from India.

In addition, Trump has signed an executive order for a new visa option called “Gold Cards,” designed for foreigners with exceptional abilities committed to contributing to the U.S.

He emphasized that “we’re taking hundreds of billions of dollars,” noting that these Gold Cards would enable companies to retain the talent they require, especially those with specialized expertise.

Trump also highlighted that the Gold Card program is beneficial, asserting that it allows for the redirection of funds to cut taxes and reduce national debt.

The Gold Card initiative is intended to prioritize high-value contributors to American society, such as successful entrepreneurs and investors, per the White House’s announcement.

What is a Playing Gold Card?

This card is designed for those wishing to enter the U.S. Applicants will need to pay a non-refundable processing fee, and if accepted, they will then enter the Visa adjudication process.

If approved, applicants must also pay $1 million. The Gold Card allows holders to move around all 50 states and territories of the U.S.

Playing Cards Platinum Card

The Platinum Card is similar but offers enhanced benefits. Registration for this card has yet to commence. Once it does, applicants must get on the waiting list, which operates on a first-come, first-served basis. If approved, the fee for the Platinum Card will total $5 million.

This card permits individual holders to reside in the U.S. for up to 270 days a year without being taxed on their U.S. income.

Trump Corporate Gold Card

The Trump Corporate Gold Card targets businesses that hire foreign employees and requires a fee of $2 million.

To apply, the sponsoring company must also pay a non-refundable processing fee for each employee.

The Corporate Gold Cards will involve a minor annual maintenance fee along with a transfer fee.
