On September 21st, while many of us will be experiencing a partial solar eclipse in Virgo, it’s not just us humans who will feel its effects. Both wild and domestic animals could also be influenced by this cosmic event.
“The eclipse signifies shifts, endings, and new beginnings. When you think about dog training, it’s a perfect opportunity to channel new energy and enforce patience and consistency,” noted Uhutz.
This eclipse in Virgo, a sign that emphasizes rationality and working toward our divine potential, encourages patience and consistency—key elements for training puppies.
I’ve definitely felt a bit of a shift personally. I’m stepping away from old training routines and focusing on core commands like ‘sit’, ‘stay’, and, well, ‘don’t steal my socks’—a challenge for sure!
Small, Consistent Training
Kenny advises pet owners to avoid intensive training sessions. Instead, focusing on one or two commands at a time is more effective.
“Engaging in short, consistent training aligns well with the energy of the solar eclipse. Just five minutes each day can be more effective than long, exhausting training marathons on weekends,” he explained.
Positive Reinforcement
Regardless of whether the sun is obscured or shining brightly, dogs respond best to positive reinforcement.
“When your dog gets it right, use high-value treats along with verbal praise. This encourages your dog to experiment with new commands and stick with them. Reward their patience,” Kenny added.
Embrace Variety in Training Environments
Dogs thrive on novelty—much like Geminis. Training in diverse settings can be very beneficial.
If your dog has mastered certain commands on walks, consider taking them to a larger park or different locations for added challenge.
Adapt and Grow
Kenny highlights how our experiences shape not just us but also our dogs. If your dog isn’t responding, don’t stress too much. Just gently redirect their focus, celebrate small victories, and keep the atmosphere light.
Make Learning Fun
For Kenny, training goes beyond basic commands.
“It’s crucial to keep your dog’s brain engaged consistently. Now is a good time to explore new puzzle toys, scent games, or tricks like ‘spin’ and ‘touch’. It encourages enthusiasm and reminds both of you that learning can indeed be fun,” he emphasized.
