Jasmine Crockett Distressed That ‘Only Two White Members’ Opposed Kirk Resolution

Democrat Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett Expresses Anguish Over Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk

On Sunday, Texas Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett stated that her distress stemmed from just two white lawmakers in relation to a resolution that honored Charlie Kirk, rather than the resolution itself. All Republicans supported the measure, while 58 Democrats, including Crockett and New York’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, voted for it. Crockett remarked during an appearance on CNN’s “Union Status” that Kirk has historically “targeted people of color” in his rhetoric.

“What I want to emphasize is that it truly hurts,” Crockett said. “When I looked at the no votes, there were only two white individuals. Typically, it seems like only people of color voted against it.”

She continued, “The kind of rhetoric that Charlie Kirk constantly puts out is harmful, particularly to people of color. It’s disappointing that some of our colleagues couldn’t recognize the danger of his words.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his team backed the resolution, with 38 House Democrats voting in favor while 22 did not participate in the vote. The resolution includes a statement that “this act of politically motivated violence contradicts the principles of a Free Republic,” emphasizing the importance of civil discourse.

Similarly, the Senate passed a related resolution with unanimous support, along with another declaration designating Kirk’s “national anniversary” on October 14, coinciding with his birthday.

House Democratic leaders expressed their support for the bill during a Closed Door Conference but didn’t provide specific instructions on how to vote, according to reports.

Ocasio-Cortez criticized Kirk during debate on the House floor, saying, “It’s essential to clarify who Charlie Kirk is. He is someone who believes that civil rights legislation enabling Black Americans to vote is misguided. Following the violent attacks on Paul Pelosi, there are calls for certain misguided patriots to shield his aggressors.”

She added that Kirk’s views were misinformed and that they aimed to marginalize many Americans, which contrasts sharply with the notion of promoting unity suggested by this resolution.

Some left-leaning commentators have made inaccurate claims about Kirk, misrepresenting his statements. Recently, he addressed a large audience at Utah Valley University. Meanwhile, an assailant, Tyler Robinson, has been accused in connection with a serious crime involving a recent murder.
