Heartwarming Rescue of a Cow Named Mootilda
A group of cows escaped from slaughterhouses in Arizona, and thanks to local sanctuaries and many animal lovers online, they were rescued.
One cow, affectionately called Mootilda, made a daring escape last month, running several miles to avoid a grim fate.
She was briefly captured and sent to a meat processing facility, but her moments of freedom—caught on camera by surprised locals—touched the hearts of many.
Amy Takaha, who runs an animal sanctuary, learned that Mootilda had been sent to a slaughterhouse just four miles from her sanctuary. She immediately took action to save the cow.
“I thought she was amazing,” Takaha said.
The slaughterhouse had a client lined up to purchase Mootilda, but it came with a catch: $2,500 within 24 hours, or Mootilda would face the same fate as other cows.
The potential new owner expressed a deep love and respect for animals.
However, Takaha found herself without immediate funds, so she turned to social media for support.
“It’s worth trying. Maybe we can come together and save this extraordinary will to live,” she posted.
Within hours, donations surpassed their goals.
The fundraiser, dubbed Cow-A-Thon, gained traction so quickly that some scammers attempted to impersonate Takaha’s Venmo account to take advantage of generous donors.
Ultimately, Mootilda arrived safely at Takaha’s sanctuary within a day and has since been enjoying the company of fellow animals like Adorabull and Mona Lisa.
Before her rescue, Mootilda was quite underweight. There’s also a possibility she might be pregnant, having been exposed to a bull months earlier, and she has had several calves in the past.
A recent update shared that Mootilda, initially skittish, has begun to trust Takaha, indicating a positive shift in her comfort level.
Takaha’s sanctuary houses around 60 other animals, including everything from chickens to a miniature zebra, many of which have special needs or were neglected.
“People often expect animals to be perfect. For me, the imperfect ones are just perfect,” she remarked.
