Trump, in Charlie Kirk's Eulogy, Highlights the Hypocrisy of Jimmy Kimmel's Reaction

Trump Reflects at Memorial for Charlie Kirk

President Donald Trump shared a heartfelt, occasionally self-mocking story with Charlie Kirk during his memorial in Arizona on Sunday. He addressed the recent controversy surrounding comedian Jimmy Kimmel.

Kimmel’s show was canceled after Kirk’s assertion that he was victimized by supporters of a magazine. The FCC has indicated that broadcast licenses may not be renewed unless Disney and ABC manage the situation appropriately. Instead of issuing an apology, Kimmel reportedly intended to amplify his comments.

Trump stated:

Some individuals who criticize you for using the wrong pronouns appeared to revel in the tragic death of a father to two lovely children. This week, the same people who decry “fascism” over the cancellation of a low-rated late-night program had intimated last week that Charlie Kirk deserved his fate. The political arena doesn’t exclusively belong to those who are misguided; some in our political sphere think they possess a monopoly over truth and morality, believing they control power, opinion, and expression. That’s not occurring anymore.

“If speech equates to violence, some will believe violence is warranted to silence speech,” Trump argued. He emphasized that free speech and open discussion are vital, not just for democracy, but for western civilization as a whole.

His speech had some lighter moments, such as when he admitted that he might be less inclined to love his enemies compared to Charlie.

It added an emotional touch knowing Charlie’s widow, Erica Kirk, had recently forgiven his murderer, and that Charlie had hoped to help a young man like the one who took his life.
