Brandel Chamblee Critiques Bryson DeChambeau Ahead of Ryder Cup

On Monday, golf analyst Brandel Chamblee shared some strong opinions regarding Bryson DeChambeau during Golf Channel’s “Live From,” just in time for this week’s Ryder Cup on Long Island. His remarks were pointed, suggesting DeChambeau resembles a “Circus Barker,” describing him as a “Captain’s Nightmare” with the stunning Bethpage Black course as a backdrop.

The discussion kicked off after Todd Lewis from Golf Channel spoke with DeChambeau, referencing comments made by Rory McIlroy. In an interview, McIlroy suggested that American golfers struggle to gain attention unless they call out others.

Chamblee didn’t hold back, labeling DeChambeau’s involvement with LIV Golf as akin to being in the “witness protection program,” as reported by Golf Digest. “Nobody sees it, he doesn’t get any attention,” Chamblee noted. “So when he does show up, it feels a bit like a spectacle.”

He further criticized DeChambeau for focusing on his YouTube presence rather than discussing teamwork or the significance of the tournament. “Talking about his YouTube channel raises some questions, especially when you consider how often those views aren’t authentic,” Chamblee remarked.

“He really didn’t mention the value of playing with the team,” he continued. “Instead, he opted to focus on his personal platform and the numbers associated with it.” While acknowledging DeChambeau’s golfing talent, Chamblee expressed reservations about his compatibility with teammates. “He can be quite generous with fans, but…”

DeChambeau’s fame has certainly been bolstered by his viral YouTube videos, including a popular series titled “Break 50,” which even featured a round with former President Donald Trump. His celebrity status has evolved, especially as the showdown approaches. As practice rounds unfolded on Monday, he teamed up with fellow golfers Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, and Ben Griffin.
