Concerns About Political Extremism in the US
About 90% of Republicans express worries regarding leftist extremism in the US, according to a recent survey. Overall, 61% of participants reported being somewhat or very concerned about this issue, with 40% indicating they’re very concerned. Among independents, 56% share these concerns, and even 38% of Democrats acknowledge some level of worry about left-wing extremism.
The survey also explored perceptions of right-wing extremism, with 69% of respondents indicating they worry about it. Notably, 88% of Democrats express concern about right-wing violence, while 57% of independents feel the same way. Interestingly, only 34% of Republicans are worried about right-wing violence.
When asked where they believed the majority of political violence comes from, 33% of respondents pointed to the left, while 29% said the right. Around 24% believe that both sides contribute equally to the violence.
This survey involved 1,567 US adults and was conducted between September 12th and 15th, 2025. It follows the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10th. Many people have been reflecting on Kirk’s legacy, resulting in calls for the establishment of Turning Point USA chapters in high schools and colleges nationwide.
In an emotional address, Erica Kirk emphasized her determination to continue her husband’s work. “The movement my husband built will not die. It is not. I will not refuse to let it happen,” she declared. “No one will forget my husband’s name. I’ll confirm it. It’s stronger, bolder, bigger, bigger than ever. My husband’s mission won’t finish, it won’t finish for a while.”
