Welcome to the fourth week of exemption wire watch!
This past weekend was pretty chaotic in the NFL, with special teams playing a crucial role in various games. Whether you’re celebrating a Fantasy League win or feeling the sting of defeat, you might be on the hunt for ways to improve your roster before the next week rolls around. That’s where we come in.
The Defense/Special Teams position tends to be the most popular weekly streamer in fantasy leagues. As you weigh your options for week four, think about the D/ST units worth picking up from the exemption wire, particularly those active in around 40% of leagues. Remember, this is the last chance before all teams become active.
Jacksonville Jaguars D/ST (6.8%)
The Jaguars secured a gritty 17-10 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday, mainly due to their strong defense, which stepped up late in the game. They managed three turnovers in the fourth quarter alone, culminating in a diving interception by Antonio Johnson to seal the victory with just 27 seconds left. With two sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery, the unit scored 12.2 fantasy points.
In week four, Jacksonville faces the San Francisco 49ers, possibly against Brock Purdy as he returns at Levi Stadium. The Jags may catch a break since San Francisco is dealing with injuries, which seems to be a recurring theme this season.
Indianapolis Colts D/ST (37.2%)
The Colts have been a surprising force this season. Daniel Jones may turn heads offensively, but the defense is making waves. This was evident in their game against the Tennessee Titans, where they overwhelmed the offense, sacking the quarterback four times and even scoring a pick-six within the first minute.
Currently, the Colts D/ST ranks fourth in fantasy football, averaging nearly 9.7 fantasy points per game. This Sunday, they’ll be heading to LA to face a Rams team that has shown vulnerability, particularly with their special teams missing two field goals against the Eagles in week three.
Washington Commanders D/ST (33%)
The Commanders triumphed over the Las Vegas Raiders 41-24 on Sunday. Although the defense had its flaws, they effectively pressured Geno Smith, recording eight QB hits and five sacks throughout the game. A standout moment came when Jaylyn Lane returned a punt for 90 yards in the third quarter, helping the D/ST rack up 11 fantasy points this week.
Looking ahead to week four, the Commanders will visit the Atlanta Falcons. After seeing the Panthers give the Falcons a close game on Sunday, Washington will likely feel confident. Interestingly, they rank as a top 10 team in terms of Defense EPA per rush, which could be key against Bijan Robinson.
