Harris states she felt a duty to challenge Biden’s reelection plans.

Harris says she had 'certain responsibility' to push back on Biden reelection bid

Harris Reflects on Biden’s Reelection Decision

On Monday night, former Vice President Harris expressed his feelings about former President Biden’s choice to run for reelection in 2024, stating he had a “specific responsibility” to address this matter.

“So, when I write this, it’s because I believe I have something important to convey—something I should have kept in mind. When I refer to recklessness, I’m reflecting on my own actions,” Harris shared during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.”

“As we know, there were numerous risks involved, and as I write… I’m just trying to clarify where my thoughts were,” he continued, though his thoughts felt a bit muddled.

Last July, Harris took Biden’s place as the Democratic candidate in her book, “107 Days,” after Biden withdrew from the race late that month; this followed a particularly poor debate against Trump and the GOP candidate.

Not long after Biden stepped down, he endorsed Harris, leading the Democratic ticket.

Biden’s decision to run for a second term had drawn criticism from various political corners at the time.

In her book, Harris reflects on Biden’s demeanor during his reelection campaign, suggesting he felt “tired,” attributing part of it to his age.

“On his worst days, he was still more knowledgeable and compassionate than Donald Trump,” she noted. However, she added, “At 81, Joe was indeed weary,” mentioning how age seemed to affect him both physically and verbally.

When asked in a BBC interview back in May if he should step aside early in the race, Biden responded that he didn’t believe it would change the election’s outcome.

“I don’t think that’s essential,” he remarked. “We exited when we had a strong candidate. She was fully funded.”

Harris’ memoir, set to release Tuesday, arrives as Democrats seek to regain their footing following losses in the last election. Some within the party, alongside anecdotes from “107 Days,” have accused Harris of heightening tensions among Democrats.
