Gunfire Erupts at Youth Baseball Game in Katy, Texas
Authorities have identified several suspects following an incident at a youth baseball game in Katy, Texas, where gunfire interrupted the event, prompting chaos among players and coaches seeking shelter.
According to officials from Waller County, three guns were fired near the Ameripark Youth Baseball Field, also known as the RAC. Video footage captured a 12-year-old player in a light blue jersey urgently running for cover as shots were fired, while a 27-year-old coach suffered an injury from a bullet that ricocheted off a post. Thankfully, he was discharged from the hospital later that evening.
The local sheriff’s office noted on Facebook that the shooting seemed to come from a nearby wooded area as the game was happening. They confirmed that three suspects had been identified but did not disclose any names yet.
Colton Biermann, a player from the Texas Colts, recounted the tense moments of the chaotic scene. “I was about to pitch and had just stepped out of the dugout. Then, I heard a gunshot,” he shared, admitting that initially, he couldn’t determine where the shots were coming from and feared it was an active shooter situation.
One of the coaches compared the experience to being in a conflict zone, while another emphasized that their primary concern was for the children’s safety, rather than their own. “They’re just 12 years old. We were just trying to keep them secure,” said Alex Smith, director of the Texas Colts.
The RAC later issued a statement addressing the gravity of the situation, assuring the community that they prioritize the safety and well-being of everyone involved, including the injured coach. They are working with law enforcement on an internal review and have suspended all activities for the time being.
“We are shaken by what transpired and committed to supporting the coach, his family, and all those affected. We appreciate the support from local authorities, medical teams on-site, and our community,” the RAC remarked.
