Giants Sign Younghoe Koo Amid Gano Injury Woes
In light of their recent kicker issues, particularly with Graham Gano’s injury, the Giants are making moves to enhance their kicking game.
On Tuesday, they brought former Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo onto their practice squad, according to reports from the NFL Network.
Koo was released by Atlanta just last Friday as the team decided to go with Parker Romo instead. The 31-year-old kicker had a rough patch in 2024, missing nine of his 34 field goal attempts, and only hitting 2 out of 3 in a recent loss to the Buccaneers.
Gano, who is 38, sustained a groin injury and coach Brian Daboll noted it impacted his performance against MetLife Stadium’s chief last Sunday night.
Gano explained, “I was warming up like normal, but something felt off afterwards. I spoke with the trainer, and they tried wrapping it to keep it loose,” which might not have been the best idea, given how the game unfolded.
After making a 25-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to bring the score to 16-9, Gano appeared visibly frustrated.
“We thought we could push through after halftime,” he said. But things didn’t go as planned. Punter Jamie Gillan also missed an extra point following a touchdown from rookie Cam Scattebo, who managed to tie the game at 6-6.
This feels eerily similar to last season when Gano injured his hamstring during the opening kickoff. Despite the current issue, the team maintains that it’s a separate concern.
The Giants ended up losing that game against the Commanders, 21-18. Jude McAtamney is currently part of the Giants’ training squad, and if Gano remains sidelined, he could potentially step in for Sunday’s game against the Chargers.
Last season, during his rookie year, McAtamney made just one field goal attempt during his single game appearance against Washington in week nine.
