Kamala Harris attributes 2024 election loss to insufficient time on 'The View'

Kamala Harris Reflects on 2024 Election Loss

Former Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her belief that insufficient time to campaign was a key factor in her loss during the 2024 presidential election. In an appearance on ABC’s “The View,” she discussed her new book, “107 Days,” and shared insights into her defeat.

Harris mentioned multiple factors influencing the election outcome but underscored, “Perhaps one of the biggest things in my mind is that we didn’t have enough time.” This sentiment highlights the challenges of running a campaign in what she described as an unprecedented situation.

Co-host Anna Navarro encouraged Harris to elaborate on her thoughts, recalling how she felt optimistic about Harris’ chances leading up to Election Day. “I went on Election Day thinking you were going to win,” Navarro said, which Harris acknowledged, stating, “Yeah, I did.”

Harris attributed her loss, in part, to having to step in for former President Biden just four months before the election after he suspended his campaign. Biden’s exit followed a difficult debate performance against Trump, leaving Harris in a tight spot.

“It’s unprecedented,” Harris continued, emphasizing the unusual circumstances. “Think about it: the sitting president is running for reelection, and then the vice president must take over to compete against a former president who had been campaigning for ten years and only officially ran for 107 days.” Reflecting on the competitiveness of the 2024 election, she described it as “the closest presidential election of the 21st century,” although a historical comparison suggests that the 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore was actually tighter in terms of electoral votes and popular vote margins.

In conclusion, Harris reiterated the remarkable nature of the electoral context she faced. It’s a complex and sometimes messy reality in politics, with timing often playing a crucial role in the outcomes we see.
