Trump Claims London Aims to Implement 'Sharia Law'

Trump’s Remarks on London and Sharia Law

During a speech at the United Nations on Tuesday, President Donald Trump expressed concerns about London potentially adopting Sharia law, issuing a warning against such a move.

Trump specifically referenced London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who, since taking office in 2016, has often found himself at odds with Trump. In his remarks, Trump stated, “I’m looking at London, where you have a terrible mayor. It’s really changed, and now they want to go to Sharia law, but that’s not how it works. You’re in another country. You can’t just do that.”

He continued with a dire warning about the situation in Europe, saying, “Both immigrants and the idea of ‘suicide energy’ could lead to the downfall of Western Europe if things don’t change quickly. This situation is not sustainable.”

Recent discussions within the UK Labour Party have focused on the topic of Sharia courts, which were highlighted in a report last week. Sarah Sachman, a minister concerned with judicial services, openly supported the idea, stating that the Sharia court would function as a faith court instead of a state court.

While Sharia law is not integrated into the laws of England and Wales, similar to other religious courts, it’s a reflection of the country’s value of religious tolerance.

Concerns have been raised about the lack of regulation of Sharia councils, as many of them do not comply with the Arbitration Act of 1996. This raises issues regarding the fairness and accountability of their rulings.

Trump and Khan have had a long-standing contentious relationship. Recently, Trump prevented Khan from attending a royal banquet during his second state visit to the UK.

In an interview with GB News, Trump reiterated his disdain for Khan, stating, “I didn’t want him there. I believe London Mayor Khan is one of the worst mayors in the world. I’ve never liked him. London should be a pristine city, and it’s disappointing to see it in such disarray.”

In response, Khan dismissed Trump’s claims, labeling them as biased and unworthy of serious consideration. He emphasized that, contrary to Trump’s narrative, London remains one of the safest major cities globally, attracting an increasing number of American residents.
