Conviction of Ryan Rouse Reveals Commitment to Combating Political Violence

Attorney General Pam Bondy announced that Ryan Rouse’s conviction, related to an assassination attempt on then-presidential candidate Donald Trump at a Florida golf course, demonstrates the Justice Department’s dedication to addressing political violence.

Rouse was found guilty on all counts after attempting the attack last September at the West Palm Beach Golf Club. Following the verdict, he reportedly made an attempt to stab himself with a pen in court before being restrained by U.S. marshals.

“Today’s conviction highlights our commitment to holding accountable those who engage in political violence,” Bondy stated. She also emphasized that this incident was not just an attack on Trump but an affront to the nation as a whole. The attorney general expressed gratitude towards the trial team and U.S. law enforcement for their roles in protecting the president and securing the verdict.

In response, Trump, who was attending the UN General Assembly in New York City at the time, praised the actions taken by the Justice Department. “I’m very grateful for the way this was handled,” he commented, noting the importance of protecting the office of the presidency. He thanked law enforcement for their diligence in swiftly obtaining information about Rouse after the incident.

Rouse, 59, faces serious charges, including five federal counts: attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and various firearms offenses. He could be looking at a life sentence as a result of these charges.
