Kamala Harris says she 'didn't have enough time' to defeat Trump in the 2024 election

Harris Reflects on 2024 Election Loss to Trump

On Tuesday, former Vice President Kamala Harris discussed her defeat in the 2024 election against President Trump, attributing one of the significant reasons for her loss to the limited time she had to campaign against him. “I think there are a lot of factors that have influenced the outcome of that election,” she remarked during her appearance on “The Scenery,” highlighting, however, her belief that they simply “didn’t have enough time.”

Promoting her new book, “107 Days,” she elaborated on the challenges she faced, noting that former President Biden’s decision to drop out of the race just three and a half months before the election left her in a difficult position. “The sitting vice president has since taken the mantle and is fighting against the former US president who has been running for ten years,” she explained, emphasizing the “unprecedented” nature of her campaign.

Harris described the 2024 election as “the closest presidential election of the 21st century,” noting that her campaign, which spent a staggering $1.5 billion over 15 weeks, ultimately lost out in popular votes, the electoral college, and all seven battleground states.

Interestingly, her return to “The View” was marked by previous criticisms of her campaign in 2024. When co-host Sunny Hostin asked if she would have done anything differently, Harris admitted, “There’s nothing that comes to mind.” In her book, she mentioned that while she had pre-prepared answers for such questions, she didn’t use them in the moment.

She reflected on her strategies during the campaign, stating, “I’m not Joe Biden, and certainly not Donald Trump.” She acknowledged her efforts to build consensus across party lines, but regretted not articulating her thoughts more clearly at the time. “I don’t know, I just pulled a pin on a hand grenade,” she wrote, explaining the pressure of the moment.

During a commercial break on “The View,” her staff reminded her to emphasize her commitment to include Republicans in her cabinet, yet she felt the damage was already done. “I made that point, but the damage was done,” she lamented, considering it a misstep that benefitted the Trump campaign and labeled her as associated with an unpopular president.

Kicking herself over missed opportunities, she admitted that the moments during her campaign still weigh on her.
