12-Year-Old Girl Experiences Remarkable Recovery After Shooting
A 12-year-old girl, who was severely injured in a tragic shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic Church last August, has made what some are calling a “miraculous” recovery.
In late August, reports indicated that two children lost their lives and 17 others sustained injuries during this incident. The girl, identified as Sophia, had been attending mass with her peers. This week, her family shared that she has shown significant neurological improvement since moving to an inpatient rehabilitation program.
“Sophia is strong, brave, and unshakable in her fight for healing,” her family expressed in a recent statement. They also remarked, “Her survival from this horrific attack is nothing short of a miracle.”
Neurosurgeon Dr. Walt Galicic, speaking to reporters earlier, highlighted the challenges of her condition. He noted that removing the bullet required surgery that involved taking out a portion of Sophia’s skull to relieve pressure on her brain.
Despite the odds, Dr. Galicic mentioned that her nerve function has gradually started to recover over recent weeks. It’s a process, but Sophia has begun to breathe independently.
“She still has a long road ahead, filled with extensive treatments, but her resilience continues to inspire hope at every step,” her family said. “Sophia is winning! Your prayers are making a difference.”
