George Springer of the Blue Jays is upset after two consecutive missed calls as the AL East competition heats up.

George Springer showed his frustration by slamming his bat to the ground after two pivotal calls didn’t go his way during a crucial pennant race.

Initially, Springer thought he had hit a potential two- or three-run double down the third baseline, only to see the call go against him. He was then struck out on a pitch that was clearly outside the zone, leaving the Blue Jays trailing 1-0.

These controversial calls had a noticeable impact on the Blue Jays’ 4-1 defeat, reducing their lead in the AL East to just one game following a Yankees walk-off win over the White Sox.

“I thought it was a fair ball,” remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider. “Our replay room thought so too, but apparently it wasn’t a reviewable play. It’s frustrating because that could have brought in two runs. I’m not sure why we lost.”

Springer’s frustrations were evident as a video on social media captured his disbelief over the foul call. The Blue Jays are fighting for their first AL East title in a decade, yet they now face a challenging situation, having lost five of their last six games.

With each pitch holding significant weight in terms of playoff potential, the team is hoping for a better outcome in their next game.

During the game, with the bases loaded and the Red Sox ahead 1-0, Springer swung at a 2-1 pitch from Lucas Giolito that seemed to cross into fair territory. However, the umpires ruled it foul, and that call couldn’t be reviewed.

Springer’s reaction was immediate, as he put his hand on his head in disbelief. “It’s a borderline call. It’s tough to accept,” Schneider commented, recalling his conversation with the home plate umpire. “From where I stood, it should have been a double.”

Things took a turn for the worse for Springer on the following pitch when an obvious ball was ruled a strike, ending the inning without any runs for the Blue Jays.

Toronto managed to tie the game in the fourth, but the Red Sox pulled ahead with three runs by the sixth inning, sealing the game.

Currently, the Blue Jays have a tenuous lead over the Yankees in the AL East with two games left against the Red Sox and three against the Rays. Meanwhile, the Yankees are set to face the White Sox and wrap up the season against the Orioles.

Toronto also has a shot against the AL’s top-seeded Mariners, holding a two-game lead. “We know it’s going to be close,” Schneider said. “We just need to keep focused. We have another tough game ahead, and every match matters.”
