Survey Reveals Americans Favor Republican Plans on Key Issues
A recent survey by IPSOS/Reuters indicates that many Americans believe Republicans have more effective plans than Democrats for tackling major issues like crime, immigration, and the economy.
When asked about which party better addresses these concerns, a respondent mentioned various topics including crime, immigration, foreign conflict, the economy, gun control, political extremism, and corruption. Overall, responses leaned toward Republicans being viewed as more capable on these fronts.
For instance, in terms of crime, a notable 40% of U.S. adults feel Republicans possess better strategies, whereas only 20% feel the same about Democrats. This perception is likely fueling President Donald Trump’s initiatives to strengthen crime control measures in places like Washington, D.C. Recently, he implemented tighter oversight by placing the National Guard under federal command alongside local metropolitan police.
Looking at immigration, a critical topic ahead of the 2024 presidential election, 40% of respondents say Republicans have better plans, compared to 22% who lean toward Democrats. This aligns with Trump’s ongoing efforts to locate and deport undocumented criminals across the nation, despite facing significant protests from the left.
In terms of foreign conflict, 35% believe Republicans are better prepared, against 23% who favor Democratic solutions. A similar pattern can be seen in perspectives on the U.S. economy, with 34% trusting Republican plans, compared to 24% for Democrats. This comes alongside recent economic improvements promoted by the Trump administration—including lower mortgage rates and decreased gas prices.
On issues of gun control, Republicans also hold a slight edge, with 32% support compared to 28% for Democrats. In the realm of political extremism, opinions are fairly divided—26% support Republicans, while 30% prefer the Democrats. Corruption sees Republicans at 21% and Democrats at 27%.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that political extremism is seen by many as the biggest issue currently facing the country, with 28% of participants identifying it as a priority over the economy, chosen by just 16%. When asked which party better addresses this extremism, respondents were nearly split: 30% favored Republicans, 26% chose Democrats, and others expressed uncertainty.
Although Democrats are viewed more favorably in areas such as women’s rights, environmental issues, and healthcare, they only identify their strength in terms of “respect for democracy.”
The survey was conducted from September 19-21, 2025, involving 1,019 U.S. adults, with a margin of error of +/- 3%.
