A father has been sentenced to seven years in prison after he killed his three-month-old daughter and discarded her body in a trash-filled area near Yankee Stadium. Damion Comager, 26, received this sentence from Bronx Supreme Court Judge Audrey Stone for first-degree manslaughter related to the death of his daughter, Genevieve, in May 2023.
Comager will also have five years of supervision following his prison term, as announced by District Attorney Darcel Clark. He pleaded guilty to charges brought against him on August 15.
Authorities reported that between May 10 and May 16, 2023, Comager violently shook his daughter. Together with another individual, they dressed Genevieve’s body, placed it in a stroller, and disposed of it along the Deegan Expressway. They were arrested on May 29, 2023.
Another person involved, Paolozzi, still faces pending charges including concealment of a human body and obstruction of government administration. She was released after being monitored for arrest. At one point, she was considered a significant flight risk, possessing a Swiss passport while her visa had expired.
Following the sentencing, District Attorney Clark remarked, “This shocking act showed an utter lack of humanity, and this sentence provides justice for the innocent life taken.” Comager’s father expressed a mix of hope and concern for his son, stating that he is grateful his son has the chance to eventually rebuild his life. However, it’s clear that he has not spoken to him since the incarceration.
Donald Kommager also voiced disappointment that Paolozzi had not yet been officially charged, questioning why she remains unpunished. He remarked on his lack of communication with her since his son went to prison.
Damion Comager met Paolozzi during a trip to Europe, and the couple moved to New York in December, shortly before Genevieve’s birth. His parents noted that he has faced mental health struggles, being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Prior to this incident, he had several arrests related to assault and domestic violence up to 2021.
