Collin Morikawa urges fans to introduce the 'chaos' at the Ryder Cup

Morikawa’s Message Ahead of Ryder Cup

Colin Morikawa made his presence felt with a message for American fans upon arriving at Beth Page Black for the Ryder Cup this Friday.

During the initial two days, Morikawa described the crowd as “tame,” particularly since the course was accessible for practice rounds. He encouraged fans to bring some “confusion” into the first day of competition.

“Honestly, it’s kind of been subdued so far on Tuesday and Wednesday,” he noted. “I hope Friday turns into an absolute mess. I’m all for that. We really need to feed our American players and teams. A setting like this doesn’t reflect the usual excitement of New York or the rest of the country where fans travel from. We should really leverage that energy, and I hope the crowd gets louder.”

Reflecting on the young fans eager for autographs, he added, “I just hope they show up on Friday and really get into it.”

While the lead-up to the Ryder Cup has been filled with talk about the anticipated atmosphere, American players are mentally gearing up to face the usual chaos surrounding such events.

Morikawa praised the U.S. vice captain for effectively pressuring players during the practice rounds. The 28-year-old, set to compete in his third Ryder Cup, expressed that he’s “trying to get inside their heads.”

“I think being a vice captain involves nudging us along,” he explained. “It’s about waking up—whether it was Monday or Tuesday—and recognizing that these people are pushing us in the right direction.”

The U.S. team aims for redemption after a disappointing performance in Rome two years ago, and it’s clear that the memories of those losses have lingered. Morikawa reflected on the bitter disappointment, saying, “There’s definitely a bad taste from leaving Rome.”

“It felt really strange. It just didn’t sit right,” he admitted. “In recent years, I didn’t say it affected me, but it definitely made me more determined to ensure I did everything possible for this team.”
