Alisa Liu Changes Music Amid Investigation

American figure skating talent Alisa Liu recently found herself needing to change her routine music after a tragic incident involving the discovery of a missing teenage girl’s body in a car linked to the song’s artist. Liu’s original choice was “This Is How It Feel,” performed by Laufey and D4VD.

Struggling with the situation, Liu expressed, “I have to change that, do you know? I was basically forced to switch tracks. But that’s alright.” In her reflection, she noted almost feeling “saddened by the process.” Despite the upheaval, she added, “I have my own program,” and emphasized the desire for fresh beginnings.

The Los Angeles Police confirmed ongoing investigations related to the case, noting that D4VD is not implicated in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who had vanished from Lake Elsinore in 2024. After her body was discovered in a Hollywood-abandoned vehicle, D4VD’s representative assured that he is cooperating with law enforcement.

Liu and her coach are currently on the hunt for new music ahead of the Grand Prix season, starting with the Chinese Cup in October followed by Skate America in November. Ambitiously, Liu aims to compete in the Cortina d’Ampezzo for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Texas Native Amber Glenn Wins Major Figure Skating Title

In March, Liu became the first American woman to claim a World Championship title since 2006, succeeding three-time defending champion Sakamoto in Boston. This victory marked an impressive comeback after Liu briefly stepped away from competitive skating in 2022.

Liu was once regarded as the youngest champion in the United States, having won the title at age 13 in 2019 and defending it the following year. She fulfilled her childhood aspiration by finishing sixth at the Beijing 2022 Olympics and earning a bronze at that year’s World Championships.

After taking a break, she’d expressed that skating had lost its joy for her, and she wanted to experience life as a regular college student. Following a ski trip, Liu felt inspiration to return under a different mindset, focusing on enjoyment and lower pressures.

Although her path back to the sport was complex, Liu took significant strides by securing a second-place finish behind Amber Glenn at the U.S. Championships.
