Authorities are anticipating DNA test outcomes regarding the discovery of Travis Decker’s remains.

Authorities are anticipating DNA test outcomes regarding the discovery of Travis Decker's remains.

Federal officials announced that Travis Decker is deceased, allegedly occurring after he filed a lawsuit against the father of a fugitive believed to have killed his three daughters. Local authorities in Washington, however, are still waiting for confirmation after the recent declaration that his body was located.

According to records from the Eastern District of Washington court, prosecutors moved to dismiss the federal lawsuit as Decker was facing a federal charge related to illegal flights to evade consequences. That said, Decker still faces state charges, including first-degree murder and first-degree luring, stemming from the police investigation into the deaths of his daughters, whose bodies were found on June 2.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office released a statement indicating that human remains were discovered in a remote wooded area south of Leavenworth, Washington. They noted, “We believe these remains may belong to Travis Decker.” The search involved multiple agencies, including the former U.S. Marshals Service, Border Patrol, and the FBI.

While no positive identification has been made yet, initial findings appear to suggest the remains are Decker’s. “The bodies were found during a search in a secluded area,” the sheriff’s office declared.

Nonetheless, the sheriff’s office added that they can’t confirm Decker’s identity until DNA tests are completed. They plan to hold a press conference to share the findings once results come back.

Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison mentioned that clothing found near the remains looks similar to what Decker wore before his disappearance. He also stated that charges against Decker will not be dropped until DNA results are in.

The situation remains fluid, with more developments anticipated as authorities await the outcomes from the crime lab.
