Roseanne Barr Speaks on Disney’s Double Standards

Roseanne Barr recently expressed her thoughts on Disney’s perceived double standards regarding late-night television, particularly in light of Jimmy Kimmel’s return after a brief suspension. She stated on Wednesday, “I ruined my whole life.”

ABC Entertainment, part of the Walt Disney Company, canceled her hit show Roseanne in 2018 following Barr’s controversial social media post about Valerie Jarrett, who was a former advisor to Barack Obama.

The post included references that many found offensive, which Barr later described as a “bad joke” made under the influence of Ambien. She publicly apologized, saying, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and all Americans. I’m really sorry for making bad jokes about her politics and her appearance. I should have known better.”

Despite her apologies and the fallout from her actions, Barr feels there’s a noticeable double standard after Kimmel’s quick return to the screen. “It just shows how they think. I ruined my life and didn’t get forgiven; everything about my work was stolen and labeled as racist,” she noted.

She reflected on Kimmel’s situation, saying, “They call me racist despite what I’ve repeatedly said, and they censored me, even acknowledging that it was a mistake.”

Regarding Kimmel’s return, she remarked, “I think he’ll cheer for himself and his fans—what is it, around 2,000 people? So, it’s going to be a huge celebration.”

Last week, an ABC affiliate, Nexstar, indicated that some comedians were mischaracterizing a tragic incident involving a child killing Charlie Kirk to gain political leverage. Nexstar subsequently distanced itself from Kimmel’s remarks.

Kimmel had drawn criticism for comparing Trump’s response to Kirk’s death to “the way a four-year-old child laments goldfish,” which Nexstar labeled as “aggressive and insensitive” during a sensitive time in national discourse. The company expressed a desire to promote a return to respectful dialogue.

Following this, Kimmel returned to his show on Tuesday night after being suspended for nearly a week.
