Manhunt in Oregon for Murder Suspect Released by Mistake
Authorities in Oregon have launched a manhunt for Ty Anthony Sage, a murder suspect accidentally released this week due to a paperwork error.
The 26-year-old was freed from the Multnomah County Detention Center in Portland after posting bail on Monday, despite a judge’s ruling from last Wednesday that denied bail. It seems there was a mix-up, as a release form dated September 17 incorrectly indicated that his bail was set at $5,000, allowing him to violate the court’s order.
Previously, Sage was arrested in connection with the robbery and shooting that resulted in the death of 15-year-old Logan Ivy, along with injuries to two others.
Jody Ramsey, Ivy’s mother, expressed her anguish to the media, stating, “For the past four years, it’s been an emotional roller coaster. My world has stopped the day my son passed away.” In May, both Sage and another suspect, 26-year-old Kevin Rivas Ramirez, were arrested and charged with murder and robbery.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged their responsibility for Sage’s release and described it as an “isolated incident.” Sheriff Nicole Morrissey O’Donnell emphasized that such mistakes should not occur, noting, “I know that the system has failed…we are the ultimate authority for the release of people.” She expressed concern for Ivy’s family and the wider community.
Ramsey criticized the errors made by authorities, calling the situation “a huge mess” and expressed deep frustration over the release of Sage. She added that this recent turn of events has instilled fear in her family as they await the suspect’s capture. “It’s so frightening. It’s going to be a constant fear for me until he’s in custody,” she said.
As the search for Sage continues, Ramsey is grappling with a loss of hope that her son will see justice. “I had hope. I had total hope.”
