Ed Sheeran Learns of Taylor Swift’s Engagement on Social Media

Despite being close friends with Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran found out about her engagement to Travis Kelce in a rather unexpected way. In a recent chat with Andy Cohen on September 24th, Sheeran opened up about how he first learned about the news.

When asked if he had saved the wedding date, Sheeran honestly replied, “No,” after a moment of thought.

“How did you find out about the engagement?” Cohen inquired.

Sheeran simply stated, “Instagram.” It seems he discovered the news just like everyone else, and when Cohen pressed for a direct message prior to the announcement, Sheeran reiterated, “No.”

Interestingly, Sheeran also mentioned that he hadn’t caught wind of Swift’s upcoming album, titled *The Life of a Show Girl*, set to release on October 3rd.

Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, announced their engagement on August 26th. The engagement announcement was cleverly captioned on Instagram by Swift: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are married,” alongside a photo from Kelce’s suggestion.

The couple has been dating since 2023, with Kelse joining Swift on her ERAS tour and her attending several of his football games, including the Super Bowl events.

Sheeran and Swift’s friendship dates back over ten years. They first crossed paths in 2012, collaborating on “Everything Has Changed” and later touring together.

Earlier this year, Sheeran shared insights about their relationship, noting he sees Swift about four times a year. During those meetups, they engage in lengthy six-hour conversations.

Furthermore, he reminisced about his experiences while working on Swift’s *Red* album in 2013 and 2014, saying, “We both lived in Nashville at the time. I spent a lot of time with her.”

Over the years, the duo has collaborated on multiple popular tracks, including “Endgame” and “Run.” In a May 2023 interview, Sheeran described their conversations as somewhat therapeutic, as they both understand each other’s experiences.

In April, he shared a sentimental photo from an old phone, which included a note from Swift referring to an amusing incident at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when he was just 19. The note read, “I’m really happy for you, but this is the best jam ever,” showcasing their long-standing friendship.

Swift infamously took the stage that night to accept her award for Best Women’s Video when Kanye West interrupted her speech, claiming that another artist deserved the recognition. It seems this incident has left a lasting impression, even inspiring Sheeran’s reflection on their shared history.

Now married since 2018, Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, share two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter. Sheeran noted that Cherry keeps him grounded amidst the glitz of Hollywood, sharing playful anecdotes about their family life.
