Panel Sparks Tension as Conservative Host Accuses Them of Using the Justice System as a Weapon

CNN Panel Sparks Debate on Judicial System

On Thursday, a heated discussion unfolded on CNN as conservative host Ben Ferguson accused Democrats of using the judicial system to target political adversaries.

The topic at hand during “CNN Newsnight” was whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) was indicting a former FBI director. Tensions flared when Ferguson asserted that Russia had attempted to manipulate the 2016 election, referencing claims that Russia conspired with Donald Trump’s campaign.

Ferguson stated, “You literally said that the Steele Dossier was created by the FBI, and then they pursued Donald Trump as though there was a coup against the sitting president.” He emphasized confusion surrounding the nature of the dossier, aiming to clarify the narrative.

In response, panelist Brow claimed, “You’re muddying the waters here.” A discussion about political violence ensued among the conservative hosts and CNN panelists.

The Steele Dossier, authored by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, erroneously alleged that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to undermine Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. However, after an extensive investigation, special counsel Robert Mueller found no evidence supporting claims that Trump’s campaign coordinated with Russia.

Former Obama White House official Johanna Masca contended that indicting Comey sets a “dangerous precedent.” She became visibly upset and raised her voice as Ferguson countered allegations of spying on the 2016 Trump campaign.

“Now, Russia is trying to interfere in every election!” Masca exclaimed. Ferguson responded, “You accused Donald Trump of colluding with Russians, and you knew it was false.”

CNN host Abby Phillip interrupted Ferguson, stating he had lost his chance to respond.

The indictment of Comey arose at the request of White House aide Lindsay Harrigan, connected to Comey’s testimony before Congress in September 2020, where he stated he had not leaked information to the press.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe had previously indicated that Comey had approved leaks concerning the investigation into the Clinton Foundation.
