Trump Attends Ryder Cup Opening in Farmingdale, New York

Farmingdale, New York – President Donald Trump made an appearance at Beth Page Black on Friday for the kickoff of the 2025 Ryder Cup, bringing along his granddaughter, Kai Trump.

He arrived with spiked golf shoes in hand, just in time to witness Team USA’s Bryson DeChambeau launch his impressive 344-yard opening drive, landing just before the green. This marked the beginning of the 45th iteration of the Ryder Cup.

This was Trump’s first attendance at a professional golf event for the audience since August 2023, when he visited the Bedminster Course in New Jersey. Earlier this year, he also checked out the Doral Course in Miami just before the LIV golf event and participated in the LIV Golf Pro-Am in Washington, D.C.

Trump has a history with this event; he was present at the closing ceremony of the 2017 Presidents Cup in Jersey City, New Jersey, when Team USA clinched a victory over Team International.

The Ryder Cup marked the third sporting event for Trump this month in the New York Metro area. He had previously attended the Men’s US Open Finals on September 7 and a Yankees game against the Tigers on September 11, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Bryson DeChambeau commented that he hopes Trump’s presence will “inspire us to win,” while players from both teams have been discussing the significance of his attendance.

Team USA’s Scotty Scheffler mentioned the team’s focus on representing their country, stating, “despite some challenging weeks, being here at home with our fans is really important, and we’re ready to start the tournament.”

Rory McIlroy, representing Team Europe, praised America as “The Best Country in the World.”

Team USA Captain Keegan Bradley expressed his honor in having the U.S. President support the team, emphasizing the unique atmosphere created by such a presence at a noteworthy location like Beth Page Black.

Even Team Europe’s Tyrrell Hatton shared his exhilaration, noting that Trump’s love for golf isn’t surprising and adds a special touch to the event. However, Robert McIntyre from Team Europe dismissed Trump as “just another audience member.”

The Ryder Cup is set to conclude on Sunday. Team Europe aims to be the first away team to win the event since 2012. Before this, they had secured three consecutive victories from 2010 to 2014.
