Harris criticizes Comey indictment: 'It's difficult to witness'

Kamala Harris Responds to Indictment of James Comey

On Friday, former Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her discontent regarding the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey.

“It’s frustrating, but it’s deeply upsetting to see more of this unfold,” Harris mentioned in an interview. She added, “What is happening with Comey? Are you mocking me, Department of Justice?”

The Justice Department announced Comey’s indictment late Thursday, citing federal charges of obstruction and perjury linked to his statements at a 2020 Senate hearing about the Trump campaign’s alleged connections with Russia.

Previously, the president had labeled the accusations against his campaign as a “witch hunt” and a “hoax.” He dismissed Comey from his position in 2017 amidst an FBI investigation.

Trump has persistently called for charges against Comey and has even urged Attorney General Pam Bondy to act against him and other political figures over the weekend.

“We can’t put this off any longer. It tarnishes our reputation and credibility,” Trump commented about the ongoing issues. “They’ve come after me multiple times, charged me five times! Justice must be served!”

Harris, a former prosecutor and California’s Attorney General, has warned that Trump’s potential second term could pose risks to the country, particularly in his targeting of political adversaries.

She critiqued his narrative about “internal enemies,” reflecting on her belief that he’s someone who lacks support.

“I know who he’s after because he’s been attacking those individuals for a while now. It’s the journalists who report unfavorable stories, election officials who refuse to fabricate votes for him, and judges who adhere to the law instead of yielding to his demands,” Harris explained during her campaign.

On the same day, she reiterated her concerns.

“We anticipated he would take this route,” she stated. “But it’s just relentless every single day.”

Comey’s indictment has sparked concern among Democrats and legal professionals, who fear it might set a troubling precedent for Trump’s actions against others he sees as adversaries.

“The Justice Department has turned into a political instrument for a vengeful president,” remarked Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) on Friday.
