Mets Suffer from Mistakes in Loss to Marlins
The SNY broadcast team received applause during the Mets’ tough performance, culminating in a 6-2 loss to the Marlins on Friday night.
The Mets started strong, leading 2-0, but faltered dramatically, allowing six runs in a devastating inning that could jeopardize their wildcard chances.
Announcer Gary Cohen commented on the team’s ongoing struggles, noting, “The Mets’ lack of attention to detail has been a persistent issue for the last three and a half months, and it bit them again tonight.”
Analyst Ron Darling added, “If this keeps happening, we might as well remove the entire travel ball from the field. We’re supposedly a team pushing for October, but how will we perform in crucial moments then?”
Keith Hernandez pointed out the number of mental errors the Mets have made recently, criticizing their performance with, “And it’s not just once; there have been too many mistakes in the last 9-10 games.”
These remarks emerged as the Mets were struggling midway through what many would call a complete meltdown. They certainly had a rough five innings.
After giving up their lead, a bobbled ground ball by Pete Alonso allowed a critical run to score for the Marlins. Shortly thereafter, Miami catcher Agustin Ramirez stole second base without a throw and advanced to third as Mets’ third baseman Ronnie Mauricio was too far off the bag.
The unraveling continued with Connor Norby, who came in to pinch-hit for Liam Hicks, smashing a two-run homer that punctuated the night’s disaster.
In addition, the Mets failed to record a hit after the third inning, compounding their frustrations.
As a result of this loss, the Mets now find themselves tied with the Cincinnati Reds for a coveted National League wildcard spot, but the Reds hold the tiebreaker.
