Conservative influencer Benny Johnson shared a video from Beaver Stadium in Pennsylvania, capturing a huge crowd on Saturday. He managed to grab a “Freedom” T-shirt featuring Charlie Kirk while attending the game where Pennsylvania faced Oregon, a team Kirk supports.
In the footage, you can see long lines weaving through sections of the parking lot, with onlookers cheering and boasting about the gathering. At one point, a spirited chant of “America!” erupted.
Turning Point USA (TPUSA) organized an event aimed at distributing 5,000 T-shirts to attendees of the Oregon versus Pennsylvania game at University Park. Kirk, who wore that well-known shirt on September 10, was speaking at an event when a tragic shooting occurred nearby, taking the lives of three people, including a 31-year-old husband and father.
In the wake of this tragedy, TPUSA committed to continuing Kirk’s mission. Johnson announced, “In honor of Charlie Kirk, we’re going to engage in a cultural battle in the environment he cherished—college football.” He highlighted the importance of the matchup, emphasizing that many fans in both states would turn out for it.
Johnson expressed optimism about the visual impact of fans sporting the “Freedom” shirts for what he referred to as a whiteout game in Pennsylvania. He recalled wearing a similar shirt that Kirk had donned when he was killed, hoping to see a sea of those shirts in the stands.
Since his death earlier this month, Kirk has been consistently acknowledged at significant football events. Oregon’s football head coach, Dan Lanning, reflected on the impact of loss on Kirk’s family and spoke to his own team about the diverse backgrounds within their locker room, suggesting there are lessons to be learned from those relationships.
Lanning mentioned learning about Kirk’s support for Oregon and expressed sadness over the tragedy that left Kirk’s family affected. He lamented the ongoing violence in society, referencing the plight of children caught in such circumstances, and conveyed how challenging it can be to explain these realities to loved ones.
