Oklahoma State Superintendent Announces Departure
Ryan Walters, the principal of Oklahoma State, declared on Wednesday that he would resign from his position to take on a role that would allow him to confront the teachers’ union, which he claims has been dominated by leftist ideologies.
In an appearance on Fox News @ Night, Walters shared his intention to leave his government role and become the CEO of The Teacher Freedom Alliance. Reports indicate this transition is set to take place.
“I will step down as superintendent and become the next CEO of the Free Teacher Alliance. My goal is to dismantle the Teacher Union and reclaim our schools,” he stated on social media on Thursday.
Walters is expected to assume this new position on October 1, 2025, as noted in a press release from the organization.
“For decades, union leadership has infiltrated schools with their political agendas, neglecting parents, students, and dedicated educators. This era ends now. We will expose their tactics, challenge them, and take back the classroom,” Walters expressed in the announcement.
He emphasized that The Teacher Freedom Alliance aims to empower educators with genuine freedom—freedom from restrictions and an agenda he believes undermines public education. “We provide our educators with the required tools, support, and autonomy while respecting their values,” he noted.
No surprise, the response from the American Federation of Teachers reflects criticism of Walters. President Randy Weingarten, known for advocating progressive teaching ideologies, reacted to his resignation, indicating that it was a step back for Oklahoma’s students.
“Today’s a positive turn for children in Oklahoma,” said Wayneton. However, he also remarked that Walters’ exit wasn’t unexpected, asserting that effective education cannot happen without supporting teachers—a claim that Walters has faltered on in his role.
Previously, Walters had been pushing for the establishment of Turning Point USA chapters in every high school across the state, a movement that continued despite the recent assassination of the organization’s founder, Charlie Kirk.
“We will install TPUSA in every high school in Oklahoma. Charlie Kirk has motivated countless Americans to appreciate their country, speak confidently, and engage in meaningful dialogues,” he stated. “Our fight against leftist propaganda enforced by teacher unions starts now.”
