Teen gymnast Naufal Takdir Al Bari passes away following serious neck injury

Tragic Death of Young Gymnast

A young gymnast from Indonesia, Naufaltakdir Albari, who aimed to represent his hometown in the Olympics, tragically passed away on Thursday. This followed a serious injury he sustained during training in Russia.

The Indonesian gymnastics federation confirmed the news of the 19-year-old’s death after he spent 12 days in intensive care. They expressed their sorrow in an Instagram post, saying, “The Indonesian Gymnastics Federation mourns the loss of athlete Naufaltak Dier Albari.” His final moments came after an extensive stay at GA Zakharyin Hospital.

Reports from the Russian Gymnastics Federation indicated that Albari suffered a significant neck injury when he fell while training at Hiber. This incident was quite alarming, especially since he was preparing for qualifications for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Before his untimely passing, he had his sights set on participating in the World Arts and Gymnastics Championships scheduled for this October in Indonesia.

In a heartfelt statement, Ita Yuriati, chair of the Indonesian gymnastics committee, described Albari as “a talented young athlete and a good person.” She mentioned, “This is a deep blow and sadness for us. We have lost the nation’s finest,” and offered condolences to his family.

Following an investigation, it was revealed that Albari may not have been ready for the training session. Vasily Titov, vice president of the Russian Federation of Gymnastics, mentioned, “All circumstances surrounding the injury have been established. Unfortunately, the athletes were not prepared to carry out such complex elements.” However, details about the specific stunt he attempted at the time remain unclear.

The Indonesian Gymnastics Federation has yet to respond to requests for further comment.
