Debate Over SEAPASS Card Storage on Cruise Ships
When you think of cruises, images of sun, fun, and relaxation probably come to mind. But a conversation on Reddit has shifted focus to something a bit more, well, unconventional—where passengers keep their SEAPASS cards.
One traveler aboard a Royal Caribbean ship shared an observation: a woman retrieved her SEAPASS card from inside her bra—not once, but twice. This sparked quite the discussion.
“Honestly, I hate it,” the traveler expressed. “Just get a strap.” SEAPASS cards are crucial for onboard activities—they open your stateroom door, work as a charge card for drinks and shopping, and are needed for boarding the ship.
As the thread gained traction, opinions poured in. Some found the practice gross, while others defended it as practical, perhaps even necessary.
One commenter, who claimed retail experience, noted, “Sweat—lots of sweat. [I have] handed out wet money.” This comment echoed the discomfort some feel regarding hygiene in shared spaces.
Still, many offered counterpoints. “Just so you know, cash is dirtier than a key card stored in your bra,” one defender pointed out. Others highlighted the lack of pockets in many women’s clothing, suggesting bras might just be the most reliable storage option available.
“Hands are way dirtier than skin under the bra,” shared another user, advocating for this unconventional storage method. It seems like practicality reigns, at least for some.
Another user chimed in, “If I had pockets, I would use them. Until then, my bra is the best choice.” Some also suggested opting for a phone case that accommodates cards as an alternative.
Health experts remind us that while skin itself isn’t inherently dirty, moist areas can indeed collect bacteria. According to the American Society of Microbiology, warm, damp skin is a more likely habitat for unwanted microorganisms. This doesn’t necessarily mean that a SEAPASS card kept in a bra poses a significant health risk. However, it could explain why some passengers feel uneasy about the practice.
Royal Caribbean has been approached for comment on this quirky debate, reflecting a side of cruising that many travelers may not have considered before.
