Confused Illinois Driver Crashes Into Police SUV

An Illinois driver found himself in a perplexing situation when he intentionally drove his car into the back of a police SUV during a traffic stop. The driver, Carezion L. Jennings, stated that boredom and a dislike for police drove his actions.

Body camera footage from Fairview Heights police shows Jennings colliding his 2018 Chevrolet Camaro into the patrol car while the officer was outside his vehicle during the stop. Moments after the crash, Jennings emerged from his damaged car, asking the officers, “What happened?”

The officer’s response was, “You tell me?” to which Jennings replied, “We need a new car.” The officers then instructed him to sit on the sidewalk and wait for medical assistance.

Despite attempts to stand up, Jennings complied with the officers’ requests to remain seated. When asked about the crash, he casually admitted, “I don’t know, man. I was drinking…and I took some weed pills.”

As the footage continued, Jennings handed his ID to the officers and bluntly stated that he “deliberately did it.” The officer seemed taken aback, questioning him, “What? Did you intentionally hit me?” Jennings responded calmly, “Yeah, I did,” mentioning he did it out of boredom and his dislike for police.

With backup arriving shortly after, Jennings was swiftly handcuffed and arrested. He is currently held at the St. Clair County Jail, where authorities are treating him as a potential danger to the community.

Fortunately, the two other vehicles involved in the original traffic stop escaped damage, merely receiving warnings for expired tags. No injuries were reported on the scene, although Jennings caused over $10,000 in damage to the police SUV.

The Fairview Heights Police Department confirmed that Jennings faces charges including criminal damage to government property, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated battery within a vehicle. The investigation into the incident is being led by the Illinois State Police.
