This Monday night, we have two struggling teams from the AFC East going head-to-head. Honestly, neither of these squads has been impressive. If you’re not rooting for either, playing daily fantasy sports might add some fun to the game.
The Dolphins are favored at home by 2.5 points in a matchup expected to go over 44.5 points. The Jets showed some promise against what many thought would be a strong Steelers defense in their opening match, but since then, their performance seems to have dipped. After a solid outing from Justin Fields, he faced a steep decline in week two against the Bills. He even suffered a concussion towards the end of that game, which led to Tyrod Taylor stepping in against the Buccaneers in week three. The Jets managed to pull off a win, with a standout special teams play being crucial for their comeback.
Taylor’s not exactly a star, but at least he didn’t implode like Fields did in week two. Still, if Fields struggles against the Dolphins, I wouldn’t be shocked if Taylor got another chance mid-game. The challenge, though, is moving the ball against what has been a porous Dolphins defense.
Switching gears to the Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa hasn’t been great. His DVOA ranks him at 26th, and he’s 29th in EPA per dropback. With four interceptions and a fumble lost over three games, he’s not showing the explosive passing the team needs to compete.
Let’s dive into the best DFS plays for this Monday Night matchup.
De’von Achane, RB, Dolphins (Flex $13,600, CPT $20,400)
Miami’s standout has caught 18 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns, alongside 30 carries for 147 yards, even if the team hasn’t been winning. As the favorite, if the Dolphins can take the lead, Achane will likely have plenty of opportunities for both receptions and rushing attempts. Fanduel may not offer much advantage, but his explosive playing ability makes him a solid captain choice.
Justin Fields, QB, Jets (Flex $11,000, CPT $16,500)
Fields had a terrible week two, but he lit it up in week one against the Steelers. Now he’s up against one of the worst defenses out there. The Steelers aren’t the powerhouse they used to be, but they still outshine the Dolphins in various metrics. They’ve allowed three rushing touchdowns to quarterbacks already this year, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fields add to that this week. Against the Blitz, he connected on 55% of his attempts for an average of nine yards each. Meanwhile, despite the Dolphins’ pressure, the opposing quarterbacks have fared well in clean pockets.
Garrett Wilson, WR, Jets (Flex $12,000, CPT $18,000)
The Jets have their hopes pinned on Wilson and a couple of other players. With a defense like Miami’s, they should be able to attack effectively without much resistance. I anticipate Fields will lean heavily on Wilson, who could benefit greatly from the Dolphins’ high blitz rate and Wilson’s target share.
Josh Reynolds, WR, Jets (Flex $3,800, CPT $5,700)
Reynolds missed the past two games, but when healthy, he was on the field for 90% of the snaps in week one. With the Jets looking to stretch the field, his deep-threat ability could pay off, particularly as Wilson garners the majority of targets.
Malik Washington, WR, Dolphins (Flex $4,400, CPT $6,600)
Although most of Miami’s targets are going to Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Achane, they are working to get Washington some touches. While his floor is low, his price is attractive enough to consider him.
Ollie Gordon, RB, Dolphins (Flex $5,400, CPT $8,100)
Gordon had a solid outing in his third week with nine rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown. If the Dolphins can secure a lead, he may see more carries as they work to keep Tua from taking unnecessary risks.
